Cutting the Recipe Down

There are several people wanting to cut down the recipe so they can make it on a smaller scale. The full recipe should make around 110 sets.

Here are instructions someone shared with me regarding cutting down the recipe to HALF a batch or to a QUARTER of the batch. I haven't checked these numbers. It'd be wise for you to do so before making the recipe.

Ingredients needed for 1/2 of recipe
(making around 55 sets):

Note: The cups / weight measurement are APPROXIMATE measurements that will allow you to have enough herbs to follow the instructions.

  2. Claudia, I'm confused. I order 10 1 pound bags of yarrow. But each bag measures 16 cup... so for 44 cup it is only 2 and a half bags...??? That is way different than the recipe. I'm using the cut and sifted yarrow.... they are not the quantities in the recipe???? can you please tex me???

  3. i just finished my first-ever batch of this remedy. I made a 1/4 batch and do not have a tincture press. I got 29 sets with 3 extra bottles of the yarrow and cayenne mix. I saved a lot of money by making my own and it wasn't difficult. I feel more at ease having this on hand.

  4. I am setting up to make a 1/4 batch. Seems it should be easy. But looking at the jars I thought same number jars just smaller size, right. Instead of quarts, use half pints, i.e. one cup. BUT I started looking at the quarts sitting on the cabinet, and the large mouth and the small mouth didn't look the same. Sure enough, they don't hold the same amount of liquid. and the "one cup" jars only hold 3/4 cup of liquid. This might account for a previous comment that they didn't get enough sets or it got too thick, wrong amount of liquid or wrong type jar. So in the full recipe, do you use small mouth quarts or wide mouth? Then I will figure out a way to duplicate the amounts. Joyce

  5. I noticed that the comfrey in the reduced batches is way less. Is this correct?

  6. I went to pre-order FINALLY lol But it's sold out. I had the thought to go ahead and make it so I'm following that:) Thank you for providing the info. I'm such a visual learner so I'm trying to see this in my head..have you thought about doing a video tutorial? Well anyway following this 1/4 recipe, how many quart jars do you think we should get? And we are just to follow the original recipe just with these measurements yes?

  7. Also, the Yarrow in Day 1 instructions says; Add in ½ tsp of cayenne. Unless I missed it, what are we doing with the rest as the 1/4 recipe calls for 5 1/2 tsp. Thank you:)

    1. Sorry.. argh I forgot to ask in my other post.. in the original recipe, the Burdock Root calls for + 10 cups water. I didn't see any water with the 1/4 recipe for that?

  8. Well gosh, so many questions lol I'm looking at the herbs on Mountain rose.. In the original recipe next to the herb for those that say cut & sifted, does that mean the leaf? there is powder option. Sorry I just don't want to spend tight monies and it be incorrect :)

  9. Rose Mountain Herbs is out of whole milk thistle seeds. What are some good and reliable sources to purchase herbs from?

  10. I'm getting ready to make this. However, I am going to make the 1/4 or perhaps the 1/2 batch. My question is.... what size jars should I be using for the smaller batches? I currently have the wide mouth quart jars, but as I look at the smaller portions for the reduced batches, I'm thinking the quart jars aren't going to work. Please help. I've spent a lot on the ingredients and don't want to waste them because I used the wrong size jars.
